Hot Fashion

I stopped by La Palapa for tamales and a margarita and I see this girl wearing this lovely green wool mini dress with the back out.  I recognize the dress from a Page Six Magazine spread with Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr.  Sure enough, I asked the girl if it was the same dress designed by Chris Benz and she said yes.  I learned two things tonight: fashion is everywhere and it sucks to type when your thumb has a hangnail.

Tonight, I started the Fashion Week parties by stopping by Fashion 2.0 and Ideeli event at the W Tuscany. I spotted Nichelle Gainer and Nichelle Pace as well as stylist to the stars Philip Bloch. It was great seeing Brooke Moreland of Fashism and Vera Sweeney of I’m Not Obsessed.

May 30: Score! Free Swap in Gowanus

This Saturday, The Yard hosts a free swap of hundreds of records, clothes, household items, and regretful “impulse buys” will find new homes. This one-day event celebrates the joys of finding treasure in someone else’s trash.

11am – 6pm
FREE! * ALL AGES

BKLYN Yard
388-400 Carroll St.
Brooklyn, NY 11231

HOW TO GET TO BKLYN YARD

Take the F or G trains to Carroll St. South on Smith. Left on President. Right on Hoyt. Left on Carroll. You can also take the N, R trains to Union. West on Union. Left on Nevins. Right on Carroll. Just over the bridge.

HOW SCORE! WORKS

1. Attendees bring their old Twisted Sister albums, ill-advised sample sale purchases, dog-eared graphic novels, and get to leave with something new.
2. BKLYN Yard will be split into departments, each “curated” by different individuals and organizations….

APPAREL – Amy & Leslie
BOOKS – The Desk Set
KITCHEN PRODUCTS – Natalie Kamei
MUSIC – MeanRed Productions

3. Volunteers will sort donations, a roving stylist will be available to make wardrobe suggestions, the Treats Truck will be on hand to satisfy sugar cravings, and local DJs will provide the background music for a lazy Spring day at BKLYN Yard.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations can be dropped off prior to the event, or left at the door. All left-over items will be collected by Rock and Wrap It Up – an anti-poverty “think tank” that distributes donations to worth non-profits throughout the city.
