Score! Swap at 3rd Ward November 21st

My friend sent this link from TheGirlieGirlAmy.

Too lazy to deal with the mess that a home clothing swap usually results in? If you are in the New York Area, hit up the Score! pop-up swap on Saturday, November 21st 2009. Hosted by Bust, Flavorpill, & MeanRed supported by Girlie Girl Army,L Magazine, Hearty Magazine, and Yelp.com.

Bring your old Blondie records, impulse sample sale buys, your ex’s distortion pedal, Jane Fonda workout videos, etc…and score some new treasures over at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn at a massive free exchange! Find a holiday gift for your mom, a smashing scarf for your friend, and a Queen Latifah cassette tape for your own personal collection. It’s like a brilliant, entirely eco (cuz there is nothing GREENER than swapping!) department store where everything is free ninety nine! Style experts from Nylon Magazine, librarians from the Desk Set, and party people from Showpaper will be on hand to help you find the good stuff. A chance to glam up your wardrobe AND an excuse to clean our your apartment? Brilliant! Event proceeds go to food rescue organization City Harvest and all left-over items are collected by Rock and Wrap It Up.

NYU Swap-A-Palooza: Sunday, April 26

NYU is having a swap this Sunday, April 26 2-6PM

Swap-a-Palooza is a clothing swap and series of do-it-yourself workshops which feature creative reuse through the recycling of used clothing. Bring a bag of old clothing and get ready to swap and alter with the help of local artists. We hope to feature many do-it-yourself stations run by local artists and a recycled clothing fashion show. The idea of the swap-a-palooza is to celebrate community creativity while allowing the NYU community to put their personal touch on a stand against consumerism.

Sunday January 4: GEMS Benefit Clothing Swap and Screening

Author Janice Erlbaum alerted me about this clothing swap event this Sunday.

Please join me for a clothing swap and screening of the Showtime documentary “Very Young Girls,” to benefit GEMS , an organization that helps girls who have been commercially sexually exploited.

Under St. Mark’s Theater
94 St. Marks Place, between First Ave. and Ave. A
Doors at 5PM
Screening at 5:30PM
Clothing swap and cocktails 7-8:307PM

Suggested donation: Whatever you can afford. Seating is limited — please RSVP to get on the list. Note: Because we will be getting undressed, as well as smashing the patriarchy, this is a women-only event. Tell your girls!

****
Suggestions for the clothing swap:
Please bring only clean, gently-worn clothes, shoes, and accessories in bags; the kind of clothes you’d be happy to pick up and wear.  We’ll have stations where you can quickly sort your items by size and function when you arrive; after the screening, you’re free to browse the piles and take home as much as you brought! (Of course, if you take a little less than you brought, we’ll have more great clothes left over to give to the girls of GEMS.)
