BKLYN Yard
388-400 Carroll St.
Brooklyn, NY 11231
HOW TO GET TO BKLYN YARD
Take the F or G trains to Carroll St. South on Smith. Left on President. Right on Hoyt. Left on Carroll. You can also take the N, R trains to Union. West on Union. Left on Nevins. Right on Carroll. Just over the bridge.
HOW SCORE! WORKS
1. Attendees bring their old Twisted Sister albums, ill-advised sample sale purchases, dog-eared graphic novels, and get to leave with something new.
2. BKLYN Yard will be split into departments, each “curated” by different individuals and organizations….
APPAREL – Amy & Leslie
BOOKS – The Desk Set
KITCHEN PRODUCTS – Natalie Kamei
MUSIC – MeanRed Productions
3. Volunteers will sort donations, a roving stylist will be available to make wardrobe suggestions, the Treats Truck will be on hand to satisfy sugar cravings, and local DJs will provide the background music for a lazy Spring day at BKLYN Yard.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations can be dropped off prior to the event, or left at the door. All left-over items will be collected by Rock and Wrap It Up – an anti-poverty “think tank” that distributes donations to worth non-profits throughout the city.

The Frisky Give Advice On How To Throw A Kick Ass Clothing Swap
I have a google alert on the word “recessionista”, so I am surprised that I almost missed but thanks to RKB, I have alert to a blog post on The Frisky which gives great tips on how to host a clothing swap at your home. Keep in mind that for public swaps, it is great to promote your clothing swap, but with a private swap only invite friends or close of friends. Too many swappers in a small space can be like a Loehman’s dressing room on a Saturday, and that is not fun.
1) invte stategically: be diverse in sizes and styles
2) prepare your apt/home: provide a hall or mirrors
3) food and drinks: shopping is more fun w/booze
4) create piles: sort by type (skirts, tops)
5) be honest: don’t let bad-fitting clothes happen to good people
6) donate the leftovers: give to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a women’s shelter.
Thrift On: Tonight October 6 at Botanica Bar

DJ Shakey spins records while hipsters swap for clothes and accessories. I have been before, and it’s probably great for shopping for Halloween costumes but so not great for finding fall wardrobe staples. The cocktails are good!
FreeMeet on Sunday, September 13
Date: Sunday, September 13th
Time: 11:00am – 4:00pm
Location: JJ Byrne Park (5th Ave bet 3th & 4th Streets, Park Slope)
Cost: Free
The FreeMeet is your chance to unload unwanted, but usable items and take home things you can put to good use. You don’t need to bring anything to take anything
(though a tote bag might help). Please bring only portable items and leave furniture and other heavy stuff at home. Items leftover after the FreeMeet will be donated to
local charities to the extent possible.
